My only complaint is that I did not quite feel I understand what had gone on by the time I reached the end. But that says more about me than the game. The puzzles are satisfyingly challenging without being too hard. The controls are simple and make sense. The journey is partially linear (you move from campfire to campfire) partially exploratory (free to move around in each of the lands to find lost souls). Probably about 10 hours of gameplay.

The latest game by No Man’s Sky developer is not only enjoyable to play, but also pleasant to look at. Despite visual simplicity it will charm you with its style and vibrant colors, bewitch you with its fairy tale atmosphere and sooth your senses with subdued soundtrack. An evocative title that is not common and only appears from time to time and that helps to provide a differential touch winch is so necessary in the games industry.

Enigmatic and mysterious, the emotional story dwells on ideas of loss and regret, before concluding with a message of hope and cooperation. I was expecting a more or less lighthearted outlook, but it's actually a pretty melancholy game. Many of the other souls who have gotten lost have turned to stone because they lacked hope. The Last Campfire is a pleasant surprise. Next to No Man's Sky procedurally generated near-infinite universe, it might be fair to call it a "Hello Games Short", but it's not a mere vignette. The somber themes that underpin its peaceful, whimsical world are much bigger than its own studio gives it credit for. I rather enjoyed the experience myself.

The Last Campfire teaches us that a flame can be rekindled and that we should not be let down by difficulties encountered throughout our lives. What a pity that the technique does not always follow… without these little clashes, The Last Campfire would come close to perfection in its category.
