Samenvatting
Goetia is een point-and-click adventure game - en, zoals in elk adventure game, zoek je naar aanwijzingen, vind je voorwerpen, en zoek je uit hoe je ze moet gebruiken of combineren om verder te komen in de verschillende gebieden, puzzels en ontmoetingen. Er is echter één groot verschil met andere avonturengames die je misschien gewend bent. In Goetia speel je de rol van Abigail, de geest van een jonge vrouw. En als geest kun je door muren lopen en door plafonds vliegen, je kunt alles naar eigen inzicht verkennen. Maar... om objecten te manipuleren, moet je ze bezitten, net als een echte klopgeest. En als je eenmaal een object bezit, kun je niet meer door muren heen.
Verhaallijn
De ruïnes van een dorp zijn de stille getuigen van de laatste momenten. De ruïnes van Oakmarsh zijn niet anders. Hun veelzeggende stilte, het stof dat bedekt wat eens een rustig dorp was in de buurt van Coventry. Als je tussen de ruïnes loopt kun je je gemakkelijk voorstellen hoe het was. De kleine zwarte puntjes van de Luftwaffe worden met de minuut groter. Het gefluit van de naderende duikbommenwerpers op die noodlottige dag in februari 1941. En als je het verkoolde hout aanraakt, kun je zelfs de waarschuwingsroepen en de golven van paniek horen resoneren door de tijd. En misschien hoor je helemaal niets. Misschien voel je alleen het gewicht van de stilte, alleen verbroken door de wind in de takken van oude bomen. Misschien voel je alleen het gewicht van deze onbeantwoorde vraag: kan die noodlottige aanval verklaren wat hier is gebeurd? Is het genoeg om te verklaren waarom de hele bevolking het dorp ontvluchtte? Dan kijk je voorbij de dorpsgrenzen, als je omhoog kijkt en de vorm ziet: Blackwood Manor. Achter zijn poorten krijgt de stilte van Oakmarsh een andere smaak. IJzig, metaalachtig, zwak, gezwollen met geheimen die niet stilstaan. Blackwood. De naam van een landhuis en de familie die er woonde. Een pervers en gek geslacht, een clan waarvan de laatste leden hun leven wijdden aan mystiek en fanatieke experimenten. Ik ben Abigail. Abigail Blackwood. Onlangs opgestaan uit het graf, ik weet niets over de laatste 40 jaar van de geschiedenis van mijn familie ... Maar blijkbaar wil iemand graag dat ik de sluier oplicht over wat er in Oakmarsh is gebeurd - wat leidde tot de ondergang van Blackwood Manor. En het lijkt erop dat ik geen keuze heb...

The atmosphere is gripping, the writing excellent, the puzzles challenging, the story intriguing to the very end. Some people complain the puzzles are nonsensical, I disagree. This is a very old discussion, what's challenging to some might not be to others. But if you go through a physics book and can't understand most of it don't claim that physics are nonsensical, maybe you lack the wit, just saying. So to sum up, play it you won't be disappointed.
The world and atmosphere of Goetia on Xbox is something to love. It's a very cerebral, clever, and originally designed point and click adventure. The story and writing are excellent throughout and the puzzles are both interesting and unique. I do however think that it can all become needlessly complicated at times and you really do have to think outside the box in order to find some of the solutions.

The puzzles are complex and sometimes difficult to make sense, I need hours to figure them out and sometimes only with random guessing. Something that after a while becomes frustrating and we end up giving up.The music is great and fits like a glove into the environment. But despite I really liked the idea I cannot recommend it. Maybe a new future chance will change my opinion.

Sure, that could in theory be not a problem for some people but I believe recent history has proven games have advanced from complete disconnection to a more tidy fashion for collecting information and at least for most people parts of the game may prove frustrating.2. The inspected items that are almost completely irrelevant to the story do not disappear after examined once, or at least they are not shown with an altered color. Sure, like 1, that could be considered good, but mainly by elitists and a minority.3. Some puzzles seem almost nonsensical, though point 1 might be to blame since even if the information is available, it might be unclear where that is to be found in scope. In general, it seems to flood the gamer with more info than it should.
Goetia is a bewitching good point and click with a fantastic atmosphere and a few flaws. The difficulty of the whole experience can be repulsive to some players. But old school lovers who love to look around and read before finding a solution to a puzzle, will surely get what they want.
