Thing is, Ubisoft are taking a rather unique approach to it. While there is still the obligatory pack that includes all of the pre-order bonuses (though that Hurk Deluxe pack is surprisingly awesome), there is a multiplayer centric add on, an exclusive day one mission, a new campaign and then this- the Escape from Durghesh Prison mode. It uses permadeath, a time limit and reset progression to make it the most challenging Far Cry experience in the series' history. However, not all of these mechanics work to the advantage of the add on and that's before you see the ridiculous price that it's going for out of the pass...You play as Ajay Ghale once again, waking up in a bell tower as the voice of Pagan Min rings in your ears. As you get up he tells you that you are stuck in the area of Durghesh and that a Golden Path extraction team will be at a specific spot in the place within half an hour. The thing is, you start with no weapons, no skills and only your wingsuit, grappling hook and machete to help. You even have to recraft all of your pouch upgrades! This actually suits the DLC though and building up Ajay in less than 2 hours is a rewarding yet frantic experience. Speaking of 2 hours, you can stretch the gameplay out to that time. As Pagan explains, every activity you partake in will net you with bonuses like better weapons, skill points and of course sizeable amounts of more time. You can try your hand at liberating a smaller outpost, complete a Karma event, do a small assassination or hostage rescue quest or even just find some collectibles like propaganda and mani wheels. There is a great amount of variety and all of this content can keep you playing until you have hours left on the clock and the online leaderboards actually persuade you to play the mode for as long as you possibly can.The game does use permadeath though and this can make things frustrating. The 10 minute extraction time is way too long as 10 minutes of straight fighting is tiresome and too difficult. When you die with only 1 minute left, then you'll see how unforgiving the experience is at you are sent all the way back to the start, though you do get to keep all of your skills, weapons and crafting materials. There are just way too many mechanics in this DLC that are making it harder than it needs to be. Remove the permadeath and keep the time limit and extraction time or just do the reverse, but all of these features shouldn't be crammed in at the same time. I also don't like how expensive it all is. $15 for a maximum of 2 hours and maybe some replayability is way too much, especially when the 6 hour Yeti campaign is going for the same price. If you're gonna get it, buy the season pass first. In the end I do believe that the best way to play this is in co-op as going through the mode with another player is more rewarding and suits the style of this mode than it does the main game. I liked Escape and the mechanics are interesting, but they do make it way too frustrating and that pricing is ridiculous and I think it should go for a third of the actual amount of money. If you desperately want some more Far Cry, have a friend to play through it with, are looking for a new form of shooting mode or just have the season pass then I would recommend this to you, but if you prefer traditional Far Cry or like value for money, then I would skip this. It's still pretty though, controls well and the area is an expanded version of the northern part of the base game, but the ideas don't always back it up well enough. The what if? scenario does help to make it more enticing, but Valley of the Yetis is where it's at...

But that's only a small gripe, the restarts and resets are even a worse idea for open-world gaming. FC4 is great, as was its previous incarnations, but I wasted $30 on Durgesh Prison.

The first big DLC for Far Cry 4 is a let-down. There is not any real new content and it offers a lot of repetition. Why buy this for the full price? But, not all is negative, it still feels great to shoot everything to pieces with an interesting range of weapons.

What could have been a far more interesting DLC ends in a wasted opportunity. It keeps some of the main game's craziness, though.

The first DLC for Far Cry 4 does not impress. The only challenge Escape from Durgesh Prison offers is the timer and permadeath, which is especially fun in co-op mode. Unfortunately the missions are too familiar and repetitive, we would have liked to have seen some original new content.
