Not my typical style of game but wanted to try something new. Enjoyed the setup and the progress through this. The names of characters became a little out of control and hard to keep track of. I enjoyed the overworld campaign conquests until the random events started repeating themselves. Combat was fun and engaging, I made it about halfway through the 2nd campaign overall. Want to come back and finish later in the year.

Yeah... this game's story was perfect up until the point where i was forced to sacrifice one of my servi or praetorians by burning them on a stake as an offering to some god, totally erasing and destroying the kind of character i was playing, the story was so good until this **** happened. Who the hell thought you should not have other options for this kind of stuff? why force the player to do this? why can't i just kill these pagans instead of sacrificing my own people? as much as i reloaded to a previous state of saves, there was no way to continue in the story, half way through act 3! and if there is and i missed it, i already gave up on it and uninstalled, gameplay was just ok, nothing outstanding.

Expeditions: Rome is an easy recommendation for any fan of turn-based tactical RPGs. The variety of gameplay environments, the depth of the combat system, and a surprisingly compelling story with unexpectedly strong characters all carry the experience above the few shortcomings of clumsy UI and underwhelming strategy elements. Even if you have no attachment to the setting of ancient Rome (I sure didn't), the overall scope and level of ambition are worth experiencing first-hand.

Expeditions: Rome is astounding in every area I was presented with. Constantly I felt like there were tons of things for me to explore and pay attention to, and truly simulates how I picture leading an entire war campaign.

There are a few potholes in this otherwise smooth Roman road with how steep the learning curve is, but they should get smoothed out in time. For those who loved the tactical machinations of X-Com, but wanted a bit more character development and a personal story, Expeditions: Rome is more fun than visiting the Circus Maximus and Colosseum with a full amphora of wine.
