Effie is a short, enjoyable 3D platformer that needs more polish on the combat. That said, it’s a kid-friendly alternative to pick up and enjoy for those who’ve already been through the others in the genre.

Effie is a decent entry into the third-person action-adventure genre, it features intricately designed levels and lots of satisfying platforming. There is a nice combination of old and new mechanics. The combat can leave a bit to be desired, and there were a few non-game breaking bugs/glitches but overall this is a nice call-back to a classic well-loved genre. Whether you want to get some feelings of nostalgia or you are new to the genre and are curious, Effie is worth a look.

There’s no doubting that there is a short and ramshackle Breath of the Wild at the centre of Effie on the Xbox. Its rough, indie edges can be incredibly charming, and surfing the open world on the back of a magical shield is a gift that keeps on giving. But the rough edges are too sharp, too frequently.

Ad un buon level design si contrappone una difficoltà piuttosto bassa nei combattimenti e negli enigmi, alla frenesia dei combattimenti un combat system poco sviluppato, ecc..Tutto questo, impacchettato in un videogioco dalla bassa longevità anche se coerente alla produzione in sé. Non si tratta quindi di un progetto dall’impatto mastodontico, ma piuttosto di un buon biglietto da visita, se non addirittura di un punto di partenza verso un futuro migliore. Insomma, consiglio vivamente di tenere gli occhi puntati su questo team e sui suoi lavori futuri.

Effie isn’t going to blow any minds, but its tried-and-true action and 3D platforming design makes for a delightful callback to yesteryear.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing Effie. With a colorful world, creative story, and the witty dialogue from Galand narrating his own adventure, it turned out to be a fun and pleasant experience. Though the progression and combat system left me wanting, it wasn't enough to make me dislike the game. The problems that arose from combat led to feelings of boredom and monotony, that usually abated with the storytelling and visuals.

Effie has a lot going on, but without any real direction. It evokes vague senses of nostalgia from games with clear visions, but fails to do much with the inspirations it draws from. The open world’s visuals are somewhat of a treat synergized well with the impressive shield-surfing gameplay. Mechanically unfocused, the game is ultimately hindered by an overly ambitious approach to the design. Effie might be worth looking for those who are okay with a simple, shallow platforming experience.

Even the puzzles are crystal clear for a certain age. The lack of an world map is frustrating. You have some moments with stuck in mid air jump. I got out of most of them. I didn't like how the game save your progression. I wasn't found of the narration. I found it amusing at first, very annoying after a while. Music was fine. The game doesn't have a great range of sounds. I give it 58%. I think I was the wrong audience for this game. But I am not sure even children will stick to the end of this game. It lack an element of charms.

Its reliance on the past instantly makes it seem older than it is. And, like a young man suddenly cursed with old age, it can get stiff and clumsy from time to time. But just like its jolly old protagonist, who never stops smiling and who flashes a thumbs-up at the concept of grape juice, Effie has charm for days.

With its benefits and shortcomings, Inverge Studios puts on our table a game that old school players will love; However, we cannot stop asking a little more for a title launched for the present generation. Effie is an entertaining game, yes, but if you're not a true lover of games like this, you'll end up getting bored soon. However, it is still an interesting proposal that more than one will leave hooked to the first.

If you’re a 3D platforming addict who needs a fill right now and you’ve played everything else, it may be enough to fill the time, but otherwise, it feels like there are plenty of other games you could be playing instead.

Effie is a decent traditional third person platformer, but could have been so much more. Perhaps we’ve been spoiled in recent years, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that Effie could have been elevated if it had tied the interesting backstory to the game mechanics or development in some way. As it stands, the narrative is totally removed from the game itself and this makes it feel old-fashioned in the wrong sort of way. Not a disaster but a missed opportunity.

Effie is, without any doubt, one of the best games that has come out of the PlayStation Talents initiative. A full-fledged adventure, with platform, action and puzzles that, apart from being fun and entertaining, has a unique visual style that sets it apart from the rest. Pity that the camera and the control in the combat is not a better film.

Comunque gli amanti del genere apprezzeranno sicuramente perchè è un gioco ben fatto fatto.

It took me 7 hours to complete the story, but these kind of games usually have this duration. Platforming is fun, the combat pretty simple and the puzzles are made for players of all ages. Surfing along the red plains is very comfortable and the story is the hook to keep the player focused on this fantasy world.
