Samenvatting
Dramatical Murder speelt zich af in de nabije toekomst op het fictieve eiland Midorijima (碧島), Japan. Ergens in de recente geschiedenis van het spel werd het eiland geprivatiseerd door de machtige Toue Konzern (東江コンツェルン, Tōe Kontserun) en veranderd in een resort genaamd Platinum Jail (プラチナ・ジェイル, Purachina Jeiru), waarbij de oorspronkelijke bewoners van het eiland gedwongen worden om in de Oude Woonwijk (旧住民区, Kyū-Jūmin-ku) te gaan wonen. Hoofdpersoon Aoba Seragaki woont op het eiland en werkt in een winkel genaamd Junk Shop Mediocrity (平凡, Heibon), in de hoop een eenvoudig leven te leiden. Maar nadat hij met geweld in het populaire cyberspel Rhyme (ライム, Raimu) is gesleurd met zijn virtuele wereld en het gebruik van Allmates (オールメイト, Ōru Meito), mobiele apparaten die meestal verschijnen alsof het de huisdieren van de eigenaar zijn, en het horen van geruchten over verdwijningen waarbij Ribstiez (リブスティーズ, Ribusutīzu), turfoorlogen tussen groepen, alle schijn van een vredig leven voor Aoba eindigt.

Years after I first played it, DRAMAtical Murder remains one of the most gorgeous visual novels, with striking character and set designs, dynamic art direction, and attention to even small details in the UI. The soundtrack, particularly the OP and ending songs, are incredibly catchy. I fall in love with the characters more every time I replay it, and even though the plot has some weak points, it’s still an intriguing exploration of themes of humanity, technology, and identity. Highly recommended for fans of boys’ love, of course, but I think many visual novel lovers would enjoy it.
