Children of Zodiarcs is een verhaal-gedreven, single-player tactische RPG die traditionele tactische gameplay combineert met de spanning van verzamelbare kaarten en knutsel dobbelstenen!
Children of Zodiarcs is geïnspireerd door onze grote liefde voor tactische RPG's, namelijk Final Fantasy Tactics en de 16-bit Shining Force games, maar ook door onze liefde voor het spelen van bordspellen en verzamelbare kaartspellen zoals Magic: The Gathering. We besloten deze passies samen te brengen om een spel te maken dat zou aanslaan bij medefans van het genre, maar ook om de grenzen te verleggen op een leuke en spannende manier
Verhaallijn
In het hart van een kwaadaardig rijk komt een groep jonge buitenstaanders in opstand tegen het corrupte systeem dat hen in zijn greep houdt.
Als professionele dieven op zoek naar een eeuwenoud relikwie infiltreert de groep in de glinsterende zalen van de privévertrekken van een corrupte edelman op zoek naar hun doelwit, waarbij ze telkens ternauwernood ontsnappen aan de woede van de stadswachten. Wanhopig op zoek naar een uitweg, zoeken ze hun toevlucht in de achterbuurten van de stad en trotseren ze de zonloze krochten van de onderwereld. Zwaarbewapende stadswachten, rivaliserende bendes en psychotische families van onderaardse kannibalen zijn erop uit om hen te pakken te krijgen. Verlaten door het systeem en gebruikt door egoïstische criminelen, zullen deze jonge metgezellen gedwongen worden om in het reine te komen met hun eigen realiteit. Maar wees gewaarschuwd - in de wereld van Kinderen van Zodiarcs, ontsnapt niemand ongedeerd!

People usually play Final Fantasy Tactics and its brethren to enjoy stories or varied tactical situations. Unfortunately, Children of Zodiarcs has neither.
At twenty-some hours to completion, Children of Zodiarcs can feel like a long row to hoe. The weight of the story drags it down a bit, as it increasingly becomes obvious that the only character who isn't fundamentally broken in some fashion is the weird foreign kid who only appears in the side story. Everyone else is a bundle of neurotic fears and psychotic motivations, shaken hard and unleashed on an unsuspecting narrative. But negatives for characters aren't always negatives for the game as a whole, and Zodiarcs puts it all together well. It's a good game, and I'm glad to have finished it, but I cannot stop wondering if certain points weren't actually branching paths or plot flags in disguise, if there weren't some way to eke out a happier ending from it all. That may be wishful thinking on my part, but it's a small hope nonetheles. In a city as messed up as Torus, we need all the hope we can get.
Children of Zodiarcs sits you down, makes you feel at home, and presents you with bite-size mechanics that anyone could understand. However, behind the cutesy graphics, and the diorama board-game aesthetic, it is a surprisingly merciless tactical RPG.
Children of Zodiarcs pleases to no end and has you coming back for more, as you work to hone your deck, dice, and tactical style to best synergize your party. A must-have for tactical RPG enthusiasts, it wouldn’t be surprising if CoZ becomes a model for future tactical and card-based games over the next decade.
Combat sequences can be a bit long, The text story is slightly on the dull side. But it really makes up for it's challenging and engaging combat style.
