Aztech: Forgotten Gods is a classic example of a good idea with failed execution. The premise feels fresh, as does the use of gods from a civilization that isn't often covered. The combat system and various traversal mechanics have potential, but technical issues, bad presentation, and an uninteresting open world lead to a game that squanders its potential. Hopefully the team can rebound to present some of these ideas again with more polish. In its current state, it's difficult to recommend Aztech.

I can’t really give Aztech Forgotten Gods a recommendation. What looked like a grand action adventure with interesting storytelling, exotic imagery, and cool gadgets, turned into a blancmange—several ingredients, but flavorless and unsatisfying. It could be worth the price-tag if it gets cleaned up and organized, but I wouldn’t buy it at this point.

It’s unfortunate because, again, Aztech Forgotten Gods has such an interesting idea at its core. It could have been a great game that really stood out from the crowd, but instead, it’s one that’s not nearly as good as it could have been.

This game is the definition of a mixed bag for me. This game is what you get when you mix amazing talent (music, art) with a rushed timetable and an unremarkable story and writing style. There are a lot of aspects that made me feel I was playing an Early Access or Beta game, but this has been indeed released, and it's selling for 30 bucks. Considering the amount of content and the quality of the experience, the score suffers, because it does not live up to a $30 game. The bads are not terrible and luckily the goods are really good, so I can go slightly above 5 with this one. If you don't mind about bland story and bad dialogues and are itching for a short and sweet colossus fighter with aerial combat, then pick this one up. Although, maybe when it goes on sale.

Aztech Forgotten Gods is what happens when you combine Devil May Cry with Shadow Of The Colossus and add a lot of love for prehispanic cultures and history. This video game transports you to an interesting and unique world to fight the gods themselves in frantic fights that you will enjoy from the very beginning of the game.

How many times have we seen unfinished games get rushed out by publishers, ultimately dooming the studio, because the game is not yet in aHow many times have we seen unfinished games get rushed out by publishers, ultimately dooming the studio, because the game is not yet in a good enough state to sell?Well, here we go again.There's a good game in there, but the developers of Aztech: Forgotten God's have clearly needed another year to bring that game out.As it is, A:FG is riddled with tell-tale signs of an unfinished game; There's poor collision detection with both enemies and objects, there's a lack of transitional animations, so the player doesn't feel connected when performing button presses, there's no voice-acting, beyond grunts that precede a wall of text, there's pointless fetch-quests to arbitrarily elongate the game and perhaps most tellingly is the sad state of the games graphics.When a game like this is done well and the art direction is allowed to be fully realised, it can be timeless in its beauty. Look at a game like Wind Waker, which still holds up nearly 20 years later. When it's unfinished and the art department is rushed to push the bare-bones out the door, with a lot of poor texturing, almost no lighting consideration, and almost all background and environment work has taken a backseat to get the product finished, the game ends up looking dated on release. Indeed, if you had told me before playing that Aztech was an early PS3 game, I would have seen nothing in the game to doubt it.I hope that somehow the initial sales of the game are far, far better than expected and that the publisher gives the studio the funds and time it needs to do a lot of heavy work on the game, so it can realise its potential but, as we all know, that rarely happens.As is, I hope the talented people behind the game move on, after the studio is closed, and get the opportunity to make something that more fully realises their vision, because Aztech: Forgotten God's is surely a shadow of what they had intended.

Aztech: Forgotten Gods is a fun but flawed game. The developers had interesting ideas such as the setting, flying around the ancient but futuristic city and impactful combat throwing players in the middle of action. However, its shortcomings manage to dull the impression. Full voice-acting would have done wonders to make the story of the game more comprehensible. Altogether, during my time in Aztech: Forgotten Gods I couldn’t shake off a feeling that I’m playing a modern port of an older console game.

Lienzo delivered a game that feels very different to anything currently on the market. The title has a lot of identity, both in concept and in gameplay. It's fun in combat, but also outside of the main missions when the player is allowed to just fly around. Even if there is not much to discover in the world, it is fun to explore and not many games can brag about that. Aztech Forgotten Gods] is a short game and relatively easy, but very solid and entertaining and great evidence of the potential of video game development in Latin America. I highly recommend the adventure for those who enjoy fast paced action games and have a low tolerance for frustration.

Sometimes a game that just misses the mark on really coming together is still worth playing thanks to the parts of it that go above and beyond. Aztech Forgotten Gods is a game with a great central gimmick and a good core story, both of which are more than worth experiencing even if, as a whole, it just isn’t quite able to coalesce. It's just a shame that the promise of its best facets isn't deliver on when it falters on some of the more basic elements of its design.

Although it has enjoyable movement and a solid story, Aztech Forgotten Gods feels like a shell of a game that's been stitched together.

Aztech Forgotten Gods is a really great time, even with its stumbles. It’s a beautiful world with a character you can see yourself in, especially if you’ve lost a loved one. Additionally, the design of the gods is a sight to behold. Truthfully, I can’t wait to see what other stories Lienzo tells next.

Aztech Forgotten Gods tries and that's probably the best thing I can say about it. Lienzo journeyed forward with lofty ambitions and, like Mulaka before it, has laid down a foundation that makes me excited for their future projects.

While Lienzo's spectacular universe is a triumph in Aztech: Forgotten Gods, the game lacks the polish it needs to propel it from being average to something truly unique. The mariachi skeleton of an amazing game lies trampled under a series of visual and mechanical bugs that just leave the whole thing feeling unfinished. I walked away feeling satisfied that I had played a pretty cool game, but not rushing around telling my friends about it in the way I had expected to. As titans rise around it and seek to conquer the gaming sphere, Aztech: Forgotten Gods will likely be banished back into the annals of the history books it came from, but trust us when we say we're sad to see it go.

You can criticize a lot about Aztech: Forgotten Gods, but any game that lets you fight colossus with your fists while listening to heavy metal is a good game, no doubt about it.

From the creators of Mulaka we would have sincerely expected more, and yet what the Mexican studio lands with Aztech Forgotten Gods is a missed worthy spiritual successor: a sequel that could have dragged all the charm of Aztec retrofuturism at hypersonic speeds, but which limits itself to re-proposing a decidedly outdated type of game design. Although the intention to build such a peculiar movement system is good, every possible form of playful enthusiasm is dampened in the bud by multiple ripples of a technical nature, as well as by a bite-free progression.

Aztech Forgotten Gods stumbles its way into being something special. It certainly has faults both technical and simply in terms of design. At the same time it is also incredibly bold when it comes to its ambition. The unique elements of its design are executed very well, and it's only in that final pass of polish that its limitations are truly evident. Even then, I struggled to put Aztech Forgotten Gods down once I started playing it. As I said at the outset, Aztech Forgotten Gods is perfect imperfection. While I can’t ignore its faults, I found myself significantly more enamored with its successes.

Despite many good ideas, Aztech Forgotten Gods is a superficial experience lacking real courage, representing a step backwards for Lienzo. The story develops hastily, failing to describe each of the characters featured in the game's plot. The gameplay is too confusing, with not very incisive and unfortunately similar to each other, never really giving the feeling of diversification in the combat system and with unfortunately very similar bosses.

Aztech Forgotten Gods had a lot of potential that is unfortunately wasted. On the plus side, the game is artistically pleasing, with well-designed enemies and a city that at least provides a nice bit of visual variety. In terms of gameplay, however, the whole thing is a bit of a mess, with poor combat mechanics and a daft camera causing way too much hassle than it’s worth. Minor distractions in the form of cosmetic customisation proves a nice little touch, but sadly Aztech: Forgotten Gods’ core gameplay is simply far below par, making this an action game you'll probably want to sit out.

Aztech Forgotten Gods has more than its share of frustrations with its camera and combat, but the unique setting and memorable characters can still make it an enjoyable adventure.

Aztech Forgotten Gods is an impressive achievement for the small studio, doing a great deal right in all areas making for a very enjoyable experience. Undoubtedly, there’s room for improvement, but for an action-adventure game that just about reaches double-digits in playtime, there’s very little of any significance that either affects the experience of that I can complain about – which for me is unusual. I for one hope this isn’t the last we see of our witty heroine and the Aztec gods.

Aztech Forgotten Gods is a game that undoubtedly comes with issues in general feel when playing, and the questionable design choice in going with an open world. Having said all that, Aztech Forgotten Gods is also an experience that is loaded with such heart and ambition that it’s impossible not to enjoy your time spent in this world with this fantastic cast of characters. If you’re someone who can look past the rough edges that likely resulted from a modest budget, then I would definitely recommend joining Achtli in her conflict that not only pits her against the titular Forgotten Gods, but also her own inner demons in a way that will resonate with many.

Aztech Forgotten Gods is not a perfect game. There’s a lack of entertaining side-content. There’s no voice talent. It’s relatively short. But does that mean you should avoid it? No. Because it largely delivers with its story and its core gameplay - the two most important elements of any good video game.

So, what keeps us on board to the end? The story. It has a fun (but cheesy) sense of humour, is unafraid to touch upon deeper subjects, and Achtli undergoes substantial personal growth. There’s plenty to like in this six-hour campaign, and we commend Aztech for exploring Mesoamerican culture, something rarely seen in gaming. It’s packing great ideas, but rough execution hampers it.
